Spyglass
What is Spyglass?
Section titled “What is Spyglass?”Spyglass is a core search and analysis tool in the Noeko app, functioning as a personalized “answer engine” that queries your entire knowledge base (including notes, ideas, sources like PDFs, tasks, and excerpts) to deliver insightful, accurate responses. Unlike traditional search tools that return lists of links or snippets, Spyglass acts more like an AI assistant, providing concise summaries, direct answers, and high-quality citations. These citations include relevant excerpts from your content along with the AI’s reasoning for why they’re included, ensuring transparency and grounding every response in your own information. It’s designed to help you uncover patterns in your thinking, recover forgotten details, or generate new insights without leaving the app.
This feature emphasizes “closed-corpus” searching—meaning it only draws from what you’ve uploaded or created in Noeko—making it ideal for personal knowledge management (PKM) users who want privacy-focused, self-contained analysis.
How to Access Spyglass
Section titled “How to Access Spyglass”- Open Spotlight Search: From anywhere in the Noeko app, press

How to Use Spyglass Effectively
Section titled “How to Use Spyglass Effectively”Spyglass shines with natural language queries. You don’t need exact keywords or structured searches—treat it like chatting with a colleague who knows your notes inside out.
1. Craft Your Query
Section titled “1. Craft Your Query”- Enter a question or prompt in plain English, e.g., “What were my thoughts on working memory from last year?” or “Summarize all ideas related to productivity hacks.”
- Keep it conversational. Vague or fuzzy queries work well, like “That note I had about procrastination” or “Generate a list of key quotes from my reading on AI ethics.”
- Tip: Start broad to explore patterns (e.g., “How have my views on climate change evolved?”), then drill down with follow-ups in the same session for iterative refinement.
2. Review the Response
Section titled “2. Review the Response”- Spyglass will output a synthesized answer, often with bullet points, summaries, or lists.
- Check the citations at the bottom. Each links back to specific excerpts in your knowledge base, with explanations like “This excerpt is relevant because it discusses cognitive load in the context of memory retention.”
- Tip: Always verify citations by clicking through— this builds trust and helps you edit or expand weak spots in your knowledge base. If a response feels off, rephrase your query to include context (e.g., add “focusing on sources from 2024”).
3. Iterate and Export
Section titled “3. Iterate and Export”- Follow up in the chat-like interface: “Expand on that with examples from my tasks.”
- Export results as new notes, tasks, or PDFs for further organization.
- Tip: Use it daily for “knowledge audits”—query once a week on themes like “Unresolved tasks from Q3” to surface actionable insights and prevent information silos.
Best Practices for Effective Usage
Section titled “Best Practices for Effective Usage”- Build a Strong Foundation: Spyglass performs best with a populated knowledge base. Regularly import sources (e.g., PDFs), tag loosely, and link notes. The more interconnected your content, the richer the analysis.
- Leverage for Specific Workflows:
- Idea Recovery: Resurface buried gems, e.g., “Forgotten ideas on project management.”
- Pattern Spotting: Ask “Common themes in my notes on learning?” to reveal evolutions in your thinking.
- List Generation: Prompt “List all pros/cons from my decision-making notes” for quick brainstorming.
- Q&A on Sources: Query “Key takeaways from [specific PDF]” to simulate a reading companion.
- Avoid Over-Reliance on Exactness: Natural language is key—don’t force Boolean searches; let the AI handle semantic matching.
- Privacy Note: Since it’s local to your data, it’s secure for sensitive topics. Remember to back up your knowledge base regularly.
- Limitations: Spyglass is primarily text-focused. It’s an evolving feature, with more advanced capabilities planned for future updates.
